iPad Screen Cracked: So you want to fix it?
It is a noble conquest to take on…but just know that there will be mountains, valleys, dragons, and possible death on the way. (All of the above are metaphoric of course).
Be Careful with DIY Repairs
If you have any doubts about this repair, take the system to a technician.
First step is to make sure that your system isn’t covered by Apple Care. Apple does not repair iPads, they only replace them in the store. This can also cost you a couple of hundred dollars.
For our purposes we can discuss the most common problem that customers run into, and that would be a cracked screen, or digitizer. The digitizer is the glass that rests on top of your LCD screen on the inside of the system and believe it or not, pretty much holds the whole tablet together.
Depending on the model of iPad, there can be as many as 7 flex cables under the digitizer that you could possibly damage if you aren’t familiar with the process of taking tablet apart. Tool marks and smudges are almost inevitable even if the repair is done by an experienced technician. It is not too much to ask for quality work, but perfection probably isn’t going to happen.
I will give fair warning that if you do attempt to the repair yourself, that the youtube videos online almost always miss a step, or leave out a very important tip. I will go so far as to say that becoming a technician who can repair iPads, took several mistakes and a lot of experience messing up.
Repairing an iPad with a cracked screen or damaged parts under the digitizer can be extremely pain-staking, and can possibly lead to spending more money that if you had taken it to a technician in the first place.
Luckily, Computer Depot has several technicians who are experienced in this repair, and offers it at an extremely affordable price. Come by for a free diagnostic.
